Is it cheaper to buy a property in the suburbs and commute to work in the metropolis? The Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) investigated this question on behalf of Postbank. It compares the seven largest cities in Germany - Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt am Main, Stuttgart and D\u00fcsseldorf - with each other.<\/p>\n
The study shows after how many years the cheaper property sale in the commuter belt pays off. Travel costs and travel time are also taken into account. According to the study, commuters who buy a property in the Frankfurt suburbs benefit the most. From Langen in Hesse, they can be in Frankfurt am Main in just nine minutes by train. The savings from the cheaper property purchase are therefore only used up after around 76 years.<\/p>\n
Dreieich and Duisburg are in second and third place. Commuters need 14 minutes by train from Dreieich to Frankfurt am Main. Here they benefit from a calculated saving of 61 years.
