In an evaluation of 1,681 existing and new buildings marketed by McMakler, it emerged that on average only 13 percent of all energy performance certificates issued were awarded energy efficiency classes A+, A or B and therefore the three best possible energy efficiency classes. If you only look at new-build homes, things look better: Here, 71 percent receive energy efficiency classes A+, A or B.<\/p>\n
The company also compared the federal states with each other. In terms of the energy efficiency of buildings, Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia perform best. In these states, 16.9, 16.7 and 15.4 percent of energy performance certificates are rated A+, A or B respectively. The worst energy efficiency values (G and H) are found in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Berlin and Thuringia with 41.8, 38.7 and 35.5 percent respectively.<\/p>\n
McMakler suspects that the reason for this is that there are fewer new-build properties in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Berlin and Thuringia than in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, Hamburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. The company also commissioned the opinion research company YouGov to conduct an online survey of over 1,060 owners. The result was that only 44 percent of respondents did not know the energy efficiency class of their property.<\/p>\n
