The aim is to reduce primary energy consumption in existing residential buildings and thus make a significant contribution to climate protection. Klara Geywitz emphasized the importance of acceptance of climate protection measures and mentioned that a mandatory refurbishment of single and multi-family homes was successfully prevented in order to avoid social upheaval.<\/p>\n
At European level, the Minister is advocating a neighborhood approach and the consideration of all climate protection measures. This approach is intended to take into account the diversity and variety of the building stock in Europe and to avoid limiting the approach to isolated solutions. Klara Geywitz advocates a national refurbishment strategy that prioritizes public buildings such as schools and hospitals in order to tackle the extensive need for refurbishment.<\/p>\n
Thanks to an already established system of support programs, advisory services and regulatory measures, the Minister believes that Germany is well positioned to meet the requirements of the EPBD Directive. It is important to complete the process of amending this directive at EU level. Once the European Parliament and Council have given their approval, the member states will have two years to transpose the requirements into national law.<\/p>\n
