For example, the entitlement to housing benefit is not based on the individual rent amount, but on the rent index in the region of the care home. Care home residents must also disclose their finances and submit numerous documents in order to benefit from housing benefit.
In addition to the housing benefit application for nursing home residents, the documents include pension statements, proof of assets and current bank statements. The background to this is that housing benefit is only available to people who are unable to pay their rent independently, for example. However, housing benefit is only a subsidy towards housing costs.
